There Story
Tinkerton’s is proud to partner with Turtle Shire Rehabilitation Center to support their vital work for our local ecosystem. Led by a devoted mother and a team of volunteers, Turtle Shire has made a measurable difference for turtles and tortoises across the Fayetteville area — rescuing, treating, and releasing countless animals back into the wild.
Their care ranges from X-rays and medication to feeding tubes and inventive surgical techniques or even just housing them for recovery. Through these hands-on efforts, Turtle Shire not only restores individual animals but advances our collective understanding of native wildlife and expands practical medical knowledge.
Join us in supporting this remarkable grassroots effort. By backing local caretakers like Turtle Shire, we strengthen our community and ensure that compassionate, expert care remains available for the animals that share our region.

Seed Dispersal and Germination:
"Eastern box turtles are also important agents of seed dispersal," moving seeds throughout the forest. Research has confirmed that passing through a box turtle's digestive tract increases seed germination rates and percentages for native flora like mayapple, black cherry, and summer grape
— University of Florida ecologist C. Kenneth Dodd, Jr.
"Turtles represent the health of the environment. They're considered an indicator species. So if they are doing well and maintaining their population... we know we have a healthy environment. But when we start seeing declines in their numbers, then we have a problem."
— Dr. Michael Day, Ecologist and Associate Professor of Biology
